(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider Connectria Hosting announced on Monday that technology financial management solutions firm ComSci will use Connectria's cloud-based hosting to deliver its IT financial and business management apps to more than 57,000 users.

This announcement comes about a month after Connectria Hosting launched its Connectria Cloud Storage to compete with Amazon S3.

ComSci says that Connectria will enable it to provide secure cloud-based solutions for automating complex IT financial cost modeling, budget and forecasting, and demand management processes.

Connectria's solution is able to support ComSci's large-scale operations and meet its security compliance demands, according to the press release.

"Connectria's customer focus resonated with us because it matched the way we do business with our customers, and it made us feel confident in choosing a cloud provider with these same values," Lou Takacs, chief information officer for ComSci said in a statement. "Our priority is providing comprehensive IT financial management and business management solutions -- not building and hosting data centers. Connectria enables us to focus on our core business and is flexible in allowing us to configure our systems and infrastructure exactly the way we want them for our customers, delivering the data security and compliance they need."

ComSci says all of its client-facing SaaS-based applications are hosted in multiple Connectria data centers.

"We're pleased that ComSci selected Connectria as its hosting partner," Scott Azzolina, Connectria vice president of marketing said in a statement. "Connectria provides ComSci clients with a secure, robust cloud-based SaaS solution that quickly scales with demand. We hope to continue our relationship with ComSci for years to come."

Jurors deadlock in $1B lawsuit against Microsoft (AP)

SALT LAKE CITY ? Attorneys for a Utah company that brought a $1 billion antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft Corp. said it will seek to retry the case with a new jury after a federal jury failed to reach a verdict.

Novell Inc. sued the software giant in 2004, claiming Microsoft duped it into developing the once-popular WordPerfect writing program for Windows 95 only to pull the plug so Microsoft could gain market share with its own product. Novell says it was later forced to sell WordPerfect for a $1.2 billion loss.

The trial began two months ago and included two days of testimony from Bill Gates last month. Jurors got the case on Wednesday. After much confusion, and some perplexing questions from the panel, they told U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz they were deadlocked by early Friday evening.

Motz repeatedly asked them if they could keep trying.

"This has been a very long and expensive case," the judge told the panel.

Novell attorneys pleaded with Motz to give the panel just one more day. In the end, however, the 12 jurors told the judge they were "hopelessly" deadlocked, and they later told lawyers a single holdout refused to vote in Novell's favor.

"He had strongly held views about the technical evidence and refused to budge," Novell attorney Jeffrey Johnson said. Jurors offered no comment after the trial.

Novell was left with little to show for a decade of effort.

"Although it's a technically complicated case, we're hoping to convince another jury that our claims have merit," Novell's corporate counsel Jim Lundberg said.

Microsoft said it would file a motion asking the judge to dismiss Novell's complaint for good and avoid a second trial.

"We remain confident that Novell's claims don't have any merit and look forward to the next steps in the process," said Steven Aeschbacher, Microsoft's associate general counsel.

Novell waited until 10 years after Microsoft left WordPerfect behind to file the lawsuit. The company said it was waiting for the U.S. government's antitrust enforcement against Microsoft to wrap up. At first Novell's case was dismissed, but it was later reinstated on appeal.

Microsoft lawyers have argued that Novell's loss of market share was its own doing because the company didn't develop a compatible WordPerfect program until long after the rollout of Windows 95. WordPerfect once had nearly 50 percent of the market for word processing, but its share quickly plummeted to less than 10 percent as Microsoft's own Office programs took hold.

Gates testified last month that he had no idea his decision to drop a tool for outside developers would sidetrack Novell. Gates said he was acting to protect Windows 95 and future versions from crashing.

He said that the company's preferred Word software was superior to WordPerfect, which was a "bulky, slow, buggy product" that did not integrate well with Windows 95.

Novell could have worked around the problem but failed to react quickly, he said.

Novell has argued that Gates ordered Microsoft engineers to reject WordPerfect as a Windows 95 word processing application because he feared it was too good.

Novell's lawsuit is the last major private antitrust case to follow the settlement of a federal antitrust enforcement action against Microsoft more than eight years ago.

Novell is now a wholly owned subsidiary of The Attachmate Group, the result of a merger that was completed earlier this year.

Hugh Hefner Talks Spicing Up Lindsay Lohan's Playboy Reshoot (omg!)

Lindsay Lohan's Playboy issue hit newsstands today and Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson caught up with Hugh Hefner to get the details on the actress' Marilyn Monroe-inspired shoot. Hef says the tribute was a last-minute choice after he was disappointed with what the photographer first shot with Lindsay.

"I saw the results of the first day of shooting and it was not what I was looking for," Hef told Shaun in an interview at the Playboy Mansion on Thursday. "[Lindsay] hadn't bared it all in the first one and she looked like she had just come out of rehab... She looked like she just got up in the morning.

"I wanted her to do something that would be truly unforgettable," he added.

Inside the pages of Playboy, Lilo's poses are nearly identical to those of Marilyn's iconic 1953 spread in the men's mag. While Lindsay was on board for the reshoot, her handlers -- at first -- were not, because this time she would be fully nude.

"They wanted a little more clothing and I said, 'You know, this is going to be what it's going to be, because we're doing a tribute here to the original nudes,'" Hef explained.

"Marilyn Monroe's comment after the original shoot was, when they asked what she was wearing, [she] said, 'All I had on was the radio.' All Lindsay Lohan had on during this was the radio!"

When asked if the actress arrived to the photo shoot on time, the Playboy magnate wasn't able to provide an answer, but said if she was truly channeling Marilyn, punctuality would not be one of her strongest points.

"I don't know the answer to that, [but] if she's doing a tribute to Marilyn Monroe, I assume that means she probably didn't show up on time because Marilyn didn't show up on time," he told Shaun.

"Marilyn was late also?" Shaun asked.

"Oh yes, with regularity," Hef answered.

Despite the unauthorized, premature release of Lindsay's pictorial, Hef still has high hopes for the issue.

"I think you can count on it," he told Shaun, when asked if he believes Lindsay's issue will be a bestseller. "The publicity surrounding it and the anticipation is remarkable."

Cairo clashes mar Egypt parliamentary election (Reuters)

CAIRO (Reuters) ? Protesters clashed with military police in central Cairo on Friday after rumors spread that an anti-government activist was detained at a sit-in and badly beaten, in the worst violence since the start of Egypt's first free election in decades.

Police fired in the air after dawn to try to disperse around 300 demonstrators who said they were angered by images posted online of the man - named as Abboudi Ibrahim - being supported by a crowd, his face badly bruised and eyes swollen and shut.

The fighting continued and, by mid-morning, the area around the cabinet office and parliament was strewn with rubble as soldiers and men in plainclothes threw stones from the roofs of state buildings down on protesters, who hurled back rocks.

Dozens of troops arrived, fired in the air and rounded up many protesters. The soldiers formed cordons to seal the area. A few demonstrators continued throwing stones at them but the streets were calmer by early afternoon.

"Many protesters fell and were arrested by the army. There were no injuries from live ammunition, just sharp objects and rocks hurled from above," said Yasser Higazie, a doctor in a makeshift clinic.

Cars were set alight and part of a state building burned during the fighting. An assistant to Egypt's health minister said 15 people had been injured in the clashes, state newspaper al-Ahram's website reported.

The sit-in outside cabinet was a leftover of far bigger protests last month in Tahrir Square and nearby streets that left dozens dead and overshadowed the build-up to the first parliamentary election since the overthrow of autocratic President Hosni Mubarak in February.

The six-week vote for the lower house has been mostly peaceful since it began on November 28 and a big first-round turnout took some of the steam out of the street protests aimed at pressuring the military to hand power immediately to civilians.

BATTLEGROUND

Those protests turned streets near Tahrir Square into a battle zone for days, prompting the army-backed interim government to resign and the ruling generals to pledge to step aside by the end of June 2012.

The cabinet is due on Sunday to hold a first full meeting since it was sworn in on December 7 and plans to weigh new austerity measures to address a wider-than-expected budget deficit.

Protesters have occupied an area outside the cabinet office since late November, forcing the government to meet elsewhere.

They said they were provoked into violence overnight by the army, which was looking for an excuse to move in and break up the sit-in.

Protester Bebars Mohamed, 19, said he was at the sit-in when military police grabbed Ibrahim, drawing an angry response from the activists camped outside the cabinet building.

"The army pushed us away from Parliament Street and burnt the tents. They threw rocks and glass on us," he said.

State news agency MENA said activists were urging others to go to Cairo's landmark Tahrir Square for fresh protests. It said protesters later blocked one of the main entrances to Tahrir.

Election turnout appeared relatively high again in the second round of voting on Wednesday and Thursday, which took in parts of greater Cairo, Ismailiya and Suez in the east, Aswan to the south and Nile Delta regions in the north.

The leading group, the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said it expected to hold onto its lead but that it was not clear whether its share of the vote would stay around the 40 percent mark.

Early indications suggested the FJP was maintaining its lead, followed again by the hardline Islamist Salafi Al-Nour party and the liberal Egyptian Bloc in third place, state newspapers reported on Friday.

The army, which took over after Mubarak was ousted, remains in charge until a presidential election in mid-2012, but parliament will have a popular mandate that the military will find difficult to ignore as it oversees the transition.

The Bachelor Spoilers 2012: Scandals, Final Four, Winner Revealed!

It's that time of year again. Ben Flajnik is gearing up to dole out the roses beginning January 2, and like clockwork, The Bachelor spoilers are already swirling.

Get ready for another wild season of skinny dipping, cat fighting, cursing (more than usual in that area) and people coming on the show for the wrong reasons.

Pour the wine (a California varietal, if you please) and grab the tissues, because this is going to be the most intense, talked-about season of The Bachelor EVER!

No fewer than 25 women are waiting to throw themselves at Ben, but who will advance to the coveted hometown dates, and who is he engaged to at the end?

Thanks to Reality Steve, Bachelor soothsayer extraordinaire, a man who comes through even in the face of potential litigation, we can likely these questions.

In addition, Court is reportedly disliked by the others in the house from the get-go, swears like a sailor and went skinny dipping with Ben in Puerto Rico. Hot stuff!

Kacie Boguskie: Got to show off her baton twirling skills when she had the first date of the season in Sonoma, then took Ben home to beautiful Clarksville, Tenn.

Sadly for Kacie, she gets bounced after the hometown dates. Rough.

The final three - Nicky, Lindzi, and Courtney - jet off to Switzerland for overnight dates. The trip to Europe is depicted, along with much more, in this preview:

The Bachelor 2012 Preview

Nicky is eliminated after the overnights, leaving Lindzi and Courtney.

The final rose ceremony took place Wednesday, November 16 at a Swiss mountain location so remote, both girls arrived at the rose ceremony via helicopter.

So with Lindzi Cox and Courtney Robertson to choose from, Ben Flajnik had his pick of polar opposites ... and naturally chose the often-controversial model.

Yes, Ben Flajnik is engaged to Courtney Robertson. As of right now.

Will it last? That remains to be seen, although we don't have to tell you about this franchise's abysmal track record. Congratulations in any case, you kids!

Some other highlights of the coming season, according to Steve:

• Shawntel ('memba her?) returns for one night only!
• Casey Shteamer, one of the contestants, had a boyfriend back home in Michael Patak, who was reportedly not pleased about her going on the show. What resulted from this is unclear, but there are rumors that producers found out.
• Samantha Leavy, Miss Pacific Palisades 2011, fell for married producer Bennett Graebner. Nothing happened during filming, but she fell for him, asked off the program, was talked into staying, and later eliminated in Utah.
